UU7 School Science Events
Days, Assemblies, Workshops, Shows
James Boffin is a Secret Science Agent. Codename UU7.
He is a character whose performances engage and excite children with science using elements of entertainment, education, and amusement so that they grasp and remember scientific principles.
His portrayal, styling and presentation are a 'James Bond 007' pastiche.
They are formatted as a mission storyline where, as a Secret Science Agent, he has to use lots of science to complete this mission successfully. He shows the children this science using experiments, all explained in words to suit the age and understanding of the audience.
"Who wants to be a scientist when they grow up?" he asks afterwards.
A show of over 80% of hands is the norm.
Mission accomplished!
So What Happens At A UU7 School Science Day?
Watch this 3-minute video to get a feel for a UU7 School visit
Shot and produced by the Head Teacher at Haggonfields Primary
There is one well-tried structure for a successful Science Day, but you can customise your Day in any way you want to - UU7 can make it work.
The recommended way is to start with a whole School assembly of up to an hour, followed by individual Workshops to Class or Year groups.
SCIENCE ASSEMBLY
This is a science show designed to engage and excite the children and get them receptive and eager for what else is to come.
While you can specify experiments you want to cover, UU7’s signature Assembly presentation is very popular.
His mission assignment is to rescue Skwiddee from the villainous Dr Puss and he tells the story of how he did this and all the science he had to use to mount the rescue.
Showing experiments like . . .
nitrocellulose flashbomb paper
investigating a science versus magic illusion, with everyone joining in
air pressure, space suits, and a jam jar water test
Secret Science Agent model jet car for Newton's 3rd Law of Motion
butterflies, and a very special science middle
how scientists keep trying, using a simple science model helicopter kit
Bernoulli's principle and how aeroplanes stay up, easily understood using a toilet roll
a 'dangerous' chemical experiment with a surprise eruption
a slightly scary experiment that everyone can try at home later
SCIENCE WORKSHOPS
You can have workshops custom-designed on a science subject of your choice, or you can choose from a selection of ready-made topics.
Workshop session times are usually between a quick-fire 20 minutes and a more hands-on 60 minutes. Around 40 minutes is quite the norm, but it all depends on the time available, the number of children involved and how many days your budget will allow for, and what you want to achieve.
Science HQ is happy to co-operate with you in drawing up an effective timetable.
READY-MADE WORKSHOP TOPICS
